Daniel Gerry Taylor, age 21-24, went missing sometime around 1972.
Daniel lived in Wisconsin, and had just been drafted by the U.S. Army. He told his family that he would be traveling to Nebraska for a couple weeks with friends, and that he would be back in a couple weeks. He never returned. When he was last seen in person by his family in 1967, he was living on his own and was riding a motorcycle.
His family received a postcard from him, from the World’s Fair in Montreal, Quebec. This would have been in the late part of the summer of 1967. The FBI later took the postcard, so his family doesn’t remember exactly when it was sent.
According to his family, Daniel next contacted them by phone in the fall of 1967 from the Bird’s Nest Motel in Skaneateles, New York.
He was later found to be working as a model (using the name Danny Taylor) for Bob Mizer in Los Angeles, California in 1970 and appeared in a short movie filmed in El Cerrito, California in 1972. Bob Mizer was a pioneer in homoerotic photography and films, though his work was controversial at the time. Although there was some suspicion on the part of law enforcement that Mizer was running a prostitution ring, his work is now highly respected and displayed in collections and museums all over the world.
Although he lived in Wisconsin, was supposed to be going to Nebraska, is believed to have been in Canada, New York, and Los Angeles, some reports state he was last seen in San Francisco, California.
Daniel was declared a deserter and it sounds like he was, at least initially, but his family believes he would have contacted them if he were merely avoiding service. Though he was clearly still alive in 1972, he was using his real name, and there’s been no trace of him since.
His sister, Lenore, continues to search for Daniel.
